SONY/ATV GO FOR DIRTY PERFECT PUBLISHING

James W Roberts reports on the Cardiff band's deal

Hotly-tipped pop-punkers Dirty Perfect are poised to ink a deal with Sony /
ATV Music Publishing. The deal has been the culmination of some
well-received live shows and performances at In the City and CMJ showcases
in New York and a rapid development of the band.

Flash Taylor, who brought the band to Sony / ATV, told Sound Nation his
reasons for getting the band on board. "I'd been following the band for
about a year and what I heard I quite liked, but it's taken so long to get a
publishing deal because of the band developing. Every time I've seen them
they've improved and over a year their sound is really strong and I wanted
to get involved.

"The role of publisher changes from artist to artist," added Flash, "because
they don't yet have a record deal my role is to help them and hone their
development. I'm going to spend more time with the band and help where I
can."

Flash emphasised the need for radio support. "For the next single it would
be great to get some Zane Lowe play on Radio 1 and I can use my industry
contacts to raise awareness and profile of the band and basically move
forward to TV exposure. The band need to get the single out there and the
next tour will help them as bands can't play enough live at this stage."
Dirty Perfect's manager Craig Tarrant discussed the motives for choosing
Sony / ATV. "Flash liked the songs and helped out as much as he could. We
know all publishers say they will spend time with bands, but Flash is one of
the most active A&R men and has already given the band a lot of attention.
We had serious interest from EMI offering more money, but the whole package
with Sony / ATV seemed the best option. The next single Quarterback Hairdo
is ideal for radio play and combined with touring and such, so we'll take it
from there."

The Scheme Eugene single is out now on Fuzzbox Records. Quarterback Hairdo
will be released on a subsidiary label of Polydor, Sound Nation understands.
